What To Eat In Summer Days
Summer season is perfect to swap your everyday footwear for flip flops and your daily diet for a summer-appropriate diet. Because you spend more time outdoors you require all the nutrients some fresh produce have to offer. Read on to get insight on what to eat during the summer days.
Watermelon
No other fruit is as perfect as watermelon during summers. It is loaded with antioxidants and keeps you hydrated and refreshed. Watermelon is high in vitamin B content and therefore great for energy production during physical activity in summer.
Watermelon by itself is pretty amazing if you simply season it with a little black pepper. But people who aren’t into it, you can always opt for fresh unsweetened juice or watermelon infused water with mints.
Cucumbers
The water-rich vegetable is crunchy and filled with fiber. It helps prevent constipation and lets you remain cool during hotter days. Add it to salads or snack on cucumbers to get the bests benefits during summer. Alternatively, you can add cucumber to a glass bottle of water and sip it throughout the day as a detoxifying tonic.
Peppers
Beautifully hued and crispy peppers are a great addition to every summer diet. Peppers are generally nutrient-rich and excellent sources of Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C. But each pepper has specific benefits.
Red peppers are more nutrient loaded and contain lycopene which is important to keep diabetes and heart attack at bay. Green peppers contain luteolin which is known for its anti cancer, anti microbial and anti inflammatory properties. All the proper are available all year long and can be a fixture in your day to day diet too.
Leafy greens
Leafy green vegetables might not be the most favorable summer produce but the vitamin and water-rich foods are perfect for a steamy day. Kale, Amarnath, Swiss Chard, Spinach, Beet greens, and Collards are available in abundance during summer. These nutritious leaves are perfect for salads, green smoothies, and stir fries. But make sure you don’t overcook them.
Chia seeds
The tummy filling and fiber rich chia seeds are a refreshing addition to your summer diet. When the temperature is rising add the seeds to a smoothie or a porridge to have as a meal instead of regular food. You can use it as a yogurt topping, in a smoothie, as a garnish for frozen sweets, in a salad and more. You can also make a chia pudding with a low-calorie coconut milk base.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. They contain lycopene which is a necessary and advantageous photochemical which protect our bodies against chronic diseases including cancer. You can add tomatoes to everything from salads and soups to sandwiches and curries. Just make sure you keep the recipe summer friendly.
Lemon
Is a list of summer foods even complete without a mention of the citrus fruit? Available all year round lemon is especially cheaper during the summers and can be used as a flavor enhancer, juice, detox water, lemonade and more as per differing tastes. Lemon is essential in the fighting off of dehydration, heat burns, and digestion related nausea during summers.
