For the New Year’s Eve, Dubai is all set to bring in a huge surprise for its theatre lovers -The Cirque du Soleil The theatre giant’s latest offering Toruk- the First Flight shall be staged in Dubai early next year with preparations undergoing in full swing at the moment.

What is Cirque du Soleil

One of the greatest names in the global theatre scenario, Cirque du Soleil is the pioneer in the field of stage shows & creative adaptations. Founded as early as 1984, this Canadian entertainment company today is based out of Montreal, Canada and regarded as the largest producer of theatrical shows across the globe.

As a leg of its recent global tour, it is scheduled to perform its latest offering in Dubai coming January.



The newest and by far the most mesmerizing adaptation from Cirque du Soleil’s kitty is Toruk- The First Flight.

Inspired by the famous and revolutionary Hollywood film Avatar, this too is based on the theory of coexistence between forces of nature and humanity. It is a musical set in the Pandora Lands some 3000 years before the series of events unfold in the 2009 film.

It talks about the happenings on the Pandora land before humans discover the same and how it is saved from a shattering catastrophe. It has been written and directed by the extremely talented Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon.

Narrated by Na’vi storyteller – from the race of the characters in the field, it talks about a natural catastrophe that endangers the many sacred and important elements of his race at Pandora Lands.

In order to save their existence, how two boys struggle and rise above all fears and inhibitions to save the Na’vi from a dreadful fate is put across the stage.

Other Special Attractions

It is obvious since it has been created by the world leaders, it is going to be mystical and breathtaking. But it has some special features one must take note of. To bring to life varied life forms and characters, puppetry has been used extensively.

With nearly 2.5 million liters of water being used, marvelous acrobatics, exciting visuals, it promises to be the biggest theatrical the world has ever seen.

What’s noteworthy here is the fact the James Cameron, the original Avatar director, has himself approved the performance in 2014 after the talks first began in 2009.

Venue and Dates

The curtains from the stage rise on January 4, 2017, and the show will run for two weeks until January 17, 2017. It is being hosted at the prestigious Dubai World Trade Centre and would be a non-stop performance of around 90 minutes.

Tickets and Other Details

The tickets for the show to be sold in two phases. The pre-booking for pre-registered customers and Cirque du Soleil’s patrons started on October 17, 2017. Apart from them, the general public has been given access to buy the tickets from October 20, 2017, online. The tickets have been priced between Dhs 295 to Dhs 495.

Toruk happens to be Cirque Du Soleil’s 37th production in a span of 33 years of existence. Promising nail-biting suspense, heart-wrenching emotions and visually enticing scenes, this one shouldn’t be missed for the world.
